This makes up for the Maryland loss, I've never been this happy about a bill in my life. Today, I'm proud to say that I'm a democrat and elected those who gave all of our people health care! Congratulations guys you finally did something right. I'm really at a loss for words on how happy I am.

*high five*
I've been very lonely in my isolated tower of indecipherable speech.
Last night's vote was a giant step in the well being of the country. Funny thing was I would watch 5 minutes of coverage on MSNBC, 5 minutes of coverage on Fox News, and then 5 minutes of coverage on CNN...and then I kept rotating them. Fox News was by far the most entertaining..lol...you had one whining that the house had just burned the US Constitution, one who had a FOLDED UP copy of the Constitution that he says he carries daily (which seems like a psych problem to me)..and 50 blue million others whining and crying which amounted to the biggest whine fest ever televised on national TV.... How quickly these same folks forget the years 2001-2006 when the GOP used underhanded tactics to run our nation in the ground in every facet of life here in the USA...for the sake of LEGISLATION THAT WAS DESIGNED TO HELP NO ONE BUT THE WEALTHY. Piss on em, I say. I hope Obama achieves all his goals because the future of our nation depends on it.
...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....
I guess I'm probably the first conservative to post on this thread. Probably not a typical conservative though because I was for health-care reform. What we got was terribly watered down and nothing close to the single payer system that we really need. Also it is really health insurance reform not health care reform. But it's still better than nothing.
I think that the positive aspects of the bill which kick-in very early will transform the opinions of the casual voter in particular and could actually turn out to be a major obstacle to the Republican party come Nov and beyond due to them looking like obstructionists and in some cases liars.
I'm disappointed it wasn't a stronger bill, I'm glad we got something.
Painting with a pretty broad brush there! For instance, he wants to cut our nuclear arsenal in half. That may be dumber than anything that even Bush or Carter did.
There is safety in strength and if every good man throughout history had been a pacifist the entire of mankind would either be enslaved or would have been destroyed. We must not start down that road, we must remain strong and diligent, but should try to again become honorable.

Me too...if everyone was less focused on looking good for their party, and more focused on doing what is in the best interest of the country (on both sides of the isle) we would have had a better bill. But the intellect of the average American voter now days doesn't allow for that anymore..cuz they can be manipulated and swayed so easily by the media. I gues what I'm trying to say is that the majority of folks now days can't think for themselves... They take malicious email, biased news reports, and garbage from the internet or the editoral page of their local newspaper as gospel. And, no, I don't think I am painting with a broad brush...after the way the country was ran first 8 years of this century, we had to have a bold leader who was heavy handed towards congress to even have a chance of beginning to fix the mess W. left.... and I think we have found it in Obama. As far as the political spin that the health care bill was against the will of the American people, they need to understand that Obama's health care stance was what landed him in the White House...so IMO, the public chose it then...the GOP just can't stand being pushed around like they pushed the Democrats around for years. It's like when someone finally stands up to the playground bully..it kinda freaks 'em out when someone finally decides to bust 'em in the mouth. Poetic justice IMO.

If playing by the numbers of your example I would prefer us to have enough to destroy the world 10,000 times over, or more. It's not about being safe because you can, it's about being safe because your enemies truly believe that you just might. Which is why we were so unsafe under Cater, everybody knew that he wouldn't and we literally got bullied. The more fire power the more nervous any potential enemy will be.

I think that's right on, but at the same time I don't think we need as many nukes as we have. It won't be long until the world will have to turn to nuclear power as a main source (if not the main source) of the world's energy. The uranium in those warheads is enriched to the point that it would yield much more energy than uranium which is normally used for energy. That's when I think you will see the US and Russia both dismantle much of the nuclear arsenals..cuz at that point it will be more economical to do so. Also, when that happens I think that not only will it be an economically sound decision, but it will seen as a goodwill gesture to the world as well. IMO, that's a win-win for both countries.
